Location: North-side, corner of e-stage and catwalk
This was my third time visiting Dublin to see U2, having been here previously for the Vertigo and the 360° tours. Throughout the years, I’ve made many different U2 friends around the world. What I loved about this Dublin trip, was that it was a massive reunion with most of those I’ve met in the past. The GA check-in times and the shifts I served for the GA were great times to see new friends arrive for the concerts. For the first show, my friend Chris and I chose to go to the e-stage. It was interesting to see a lot fans converge around the e-stage circumference, while the spot where the catwalk meets the e-stage was available. Because the e-stage was moved to the centre of the 3Arena (due to its unique amphitheater layout), it turned out to be an amazing spot because we had a clear view of the I-stage (about 15 meters away) and a wide view of the e-stage. While the set list was predictably standard for a first night, the energy from the band was different. It was elevated. I reckon it was because U2’s friends and family were in the crowd and they wanted to put on a strong showing for them. I’ll never forget the energy and raw excitement of that first night in Dublin.
